Mount Marty University has been a staple in the Yankton community since it was founded in 1936. Mount Marty, throughout its existence, has touched the lives of people who live in and visit the Yankton community. Mount Marty University’s Benedictine mission prepares students for a contemporary world of work, service to the human community and personal growth, which extends beyond the campus into the community.
Mount Marty students are not only looking for careers but also for ways to serve others. From mentoring local youth at the Boys and Girls Club to interpreting for Spanish speaking clients at local food pantries, to teams helping move the local Clothing Closet to a new facility, Mount Marty students have focused on the community and making a positive impact in the world through volunteerism as part of the Benedictine values.
Local non-profit agencies in Yankton comment about how Mount Marty students contribute to the success of those agencies in carrying out their missions and achieving their goals. The Mount Marty University Student body through the leadership and staff at Mount Marty recognizes the needs of non-profits, the clients they serve, the events held in the community, and they fill those needs with passion, effort and a volunteer spirit. Mount Marty’s student body volunteers have become a priceless asset to their organizations.
For these reasons, the United Way and Volunteer Services of Greater Yankton is thrilled to present the January 2025 Volunteer of the Month Award to The Mount Marty University Student Body! Thank You, also, to the staff and administration at Mount Marty for supporting and coordinating the community’s requests for volunteers throughout the years and into the future.
We asked Mount Marty’s students to share more about how volunteerism impacts their organization:

What value do volunteers bring to your organization?
Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization. Starting with our board of directors, all of whom are unpaid, volunteers ensure we can create meaningful events and opportunities for our students and people in the community.
